Description

One year course at North Hanover Street Campus

This challenging course offers the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive and exciting range of design and specialist craft studies. Students will develop their skills in drawing and the creative design process.

The course is project based and students will have the opportunity to explore their own creativity and develop self-awareness to prepare for the demands of a degree course or working as an independent maker. The course focuses on the development of ‘designing and making’, underpinned by intensive developmental drawing and sketchbook research.

Students will gain skills in working imaginatively with a diverse range of traditional and contemporary materials, specialist techniques and equipment. Projects concentrate on designing, exploring and making, drawing and personal expression. Students will study applied art techniques in Art Glass, Applied Ceramics, Jewellery and Performance Costume.

Students who successfully complete this course will achieve the HNC Art & Design (SCQF 7)

The range of activities within the course can lead to the development of a personal portfolio which can be used as part of an application for a range Degree level courses.

Entry Requirements

(a) NC Applied Art; NC Jewellery or other similar NC
OR
(b) One Higher – Art and English at minimum Intermediate 2.

A Portfolio is also required for HNC/D applications.

Apply Information

Fill in an application form and return it as soon as possible to the College’s Student Services Section. Your application will be acknowledged within ten working days of receipt.

It is important that you complete the application form as accurately and clearly as possible. You may also wish to include additional information to support your application.

Your completed application form will be passed to a course tutor who will consider your application and you may be asked to attend an interview.

If you are successful you will be made a formal offer of a place. An unconditional offer means that you fulfil all the immediate course entry requirements and have been accepted. A conditional offer means that you must obtain certain qualifications or examination grades before you are accepted. Guidance on how to accept or decline a place is contained in the offer letter.

If you decide to withdraw your application or if you are accepted on to more than one course, please inform the Student Services Section immediately. This will enable us to offer the places held open for you to other applicants.

Applicants who are unsuccessful will be given the opportunity to consider other options available to them and, if required, to seek advice from Student Services Staff.

Applications are welcomed throughout the year. However, the earlier you apply the better your chance of a place on the course of your choice.

You may want some guidance before applying for a place on a College course. Help and support is freely available by contacting the College’s Student Services Section.

Enrolment

Enrolment dates vary according to course requirements. If you have accepted a definite offer of a place, the Student Services Section will provide you with joining instructions giving details on when to enrol and first day attendance. These are usually sent at the beginning of August.

Induction

During your first few days at the College you will obtain more information on your course of study and the facilities on offer at College. Usually there is a Welcome Event at the beginning of each academic session. Details will be provided with joining instructions.
