Six months course
at North Hanover Street Campus
This course develops the creative and technical skills required of a 3D computer artist. Software introduced Autodesk 3-D Studio Max, Photoshop, Final Cut and the MS Office Suite. The course takes a serious hand-on approach with both the Mac and PC platforms being used as necessary. Subjects studied on this course will include the following:-
- Creative Industriues: An Introduction
- 3D Modelling: An Introduction
- 3D Animation: Lighting
- 3D Animation: Drawing Skills
- 3D Animation: Modelling Intermediate
- 3D Animation: Movement Studies Intermediate
- 3D Animation: Environmental Modelling

Progression Opportunities
Students entering the career market would expect to find employment within a wide range of sectors such as new media, interactive media and converging media technology fields:
3D Developer; 3D Character Designer; Environments Designer; Storyboard Supervisor; Effects Designer; Shader Writer; Texture Artist/Texture Painter; Rigger; Animator; Compositor; Roto Artist.
Successful candidates may continue their studies by progressing into Year 2 of a local university. Formal agreements with the following universities have been initiated, Glasgow Caledonian University and UWS (University of the West of Scotland). Possibilities may exist to progress to other universities.
Entry Requirements
(a) 1 appropriate Higher and 3 Intermediate 2 courses (including Computing, Graphic Design or Information Studies).
OR
(b) 1 Higher and 3 Standard Grades at Band 3 or above (including Computing, Graphic Design or Information Systems).
OR
(c)Other equivalent qualifications and or experience.
Apply Information
Fill in an application form and return it as soon as possible to the College’s Student Services Section. Your application will be acknowledged within ten working days of receipt.
It is important that you complete the application form as accurately and clearly as possible. You may also wish to include additional information to support your application.
Your completed application form will be passed to a course tutor who will consider your application and you may be asked to attend an interview.
If you are successful you will be made a formal offer of a place. An unconditional offer means that you fulfil all the immediate course entry requirements and have been accepted. A conditional offer means that you must obtain certain qualifications or examination grades before you are accepted. Guidance on how to accept or decline a place is contained in the offer letter.
If you decide to withdraw your application or if you are accepted on to more than one course, please inform the Student Services Section immediately. This will enable us to offer the places held open for you to other applicants.
Applicants who are unsuccessful will be given the opportunity to consider other options available to them and, if required, to seek advice from Student Services Staff.
