Theme and Judging Criteria
The theme is “Embracing Diversity” and the aim is to find the most effective expression and communication of this theme according to the following judging criteria:
- Clarity and accessibility of diversity message.
- Level of effort shown.
- Originality of concept.
- Quality of work.
- Impact on viewer/audience.
Format
Entries can be presented in any format, including:
- A building, joinery and shop-fitting, painting and decorating, stonemasonry, bricklaying, plastering, or tiling project.
- A poem, short story, song, news article, or film/television/radio production.
- A piece of graphic design, painting, illustration, poster, pamphlet, banner, photograph, or print.
- A web page, interactive media, information database, or blog.
- A sculpture, piece of craftwork, furniture, jewellery, glass work, ceramic, 3D design, model, product design, or interior design project.
- An item of cookery, baking, cake decoration, sugar-craft, or food and beverage service.
- A business proposal; event vision and logistical plan; sport and leisure programme, or travel and tourism concept.
Entering
Each student can submit up to two entries: one individual and one group entry and each entry must be an original piece of work. The piece of work may be related to your course, or may be something completely different!
Please keep your entry, if you have already finished producing it, but return your entry form to Organisational Development, Room 122 Cathedral Street Campus by Friday, 2nd April 2010.
ESF and ESOL students who complete their course before this date are encouraged to enter before finishing!
Your Work
You do not need to have completed your entry by Friday, 2nd April. Instead, after you have submitted your form, you will receive a letter asking that your entry is completed by and ready to be taken to Scholars Restaurant, Cathedral Street Campus, on Tuesday, 25th May, between 12pm and 2pm. It is your responsibility to take your entry to Scholars Restaurant during this time and collect it at the end of the awards ceremony.
Judging and Awards Ceremony
Your work will then be arranged and displayed for judging on Wednesday, 26th May. You will receive and invitation to attend the special exhibition and ceremony in Scholars Restaurant, Cathedral Street, on Thursday, 27th May 2010, when the winners will be announced! Good Luck!
Prizes
There will be four award categories, which will be shared if the entry is from a group rather than an individual:
- Non-Advanced Course School Winner: £200*
- Advanced Course School Winner: £200*
- Non-Advance Overall College Winner: £300*
- Advanced Overall College Winner: £300*
This means that the overall winners will walk away with £500!*
Conditions
Students currently registered and attending a course during the 2009-2010 session can enter.
You must ensure that you have cleared all relevant rights relating to any third party content within the entry you submit. The College reserves the right to make copies of submitted entries, for example for marketing and promotion purposes. You will, of course be acknowledged as the author(s) and the intellectual property rights belong to you
* Prizes will be given in Buchanan Galleries Vouchers. The College’s 4 Schools are: 1. Built Environment; 2. Communication and Media; 3. Design; and 4. Food, Hospitality, Sport and Tourism. Advanced Courses are those at HNC level and above.
