Each year the college applies to the European Social Fund for assistance to run courses specifically targeted at people who are out of work, returning to work or looking to re-train.
ESF funding allows the college to offer the following student support:
- £80 training allowance per week
- Travel Expenses
- Lunch Vouchers
- Course materials (e.g. books or tools) will be provided
- Childcare expenses for those who need it

Other Information
- The College will give you a training allowance and travel expenses to follow this course without worrying about means testing.
- This courses are made up of a range of units or modules developed and designed by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and the qualifications achieved through these courses are recognised nationally by employers and leading industry bodies.
- You will receive a Certificate of Achievement from the SQA on completion of your course. This will record all the units/modules you gained which can be shown to potential employers.
- You will benefit from a better chance of getting an interesting and well-paid job or the opportunity to go onto further studies
- These courses provide an opportunity to meet new people who are doing the same thing as you
How is the course taught and will I have to sit exams at the end?
All courses are workshop based which means that you get hands-on experience of the new skills you are learning through working on personal projects. You won’t have to sit any exams at the end of the course. You will be continually assessed which means that throughout the course your tutor will check your progress to make sure that you aren’t having any problems.
