Funding (Disabled Students' Allowance)

The Disabled Students’ Allowance is funding given by the SAAS to provide assistance with:

  • Small items of equipment, including consumables such as ink or photocopying.
  • Special dietary needs.
  • Large items of equipment such as Braille notetakers, Computers, etc.
  • Non-Medical Personal Help – this pays for notetakers, Study Skills support etc.

Who can apply?

Eligible students on Higher National (HN) level courses. Students who apply will be interviewed (either here or at Motherwell College Access Centre) to assess their needs. Based on this interview a report will be written and sent to the SAAS making recommendations for your support. SAAS make the final decision as to what equipment and personal support they will provide you with.

How can I apply?

Application forms for DSA are kept by Extended Learning Support (ELS), or can be accessed directly from SAAS. We recommend that you complete this form with your Extended Learning Support tutor.

It is essential that you apply for DSA as soon as you receive an offer of place on a course to ensure that support is in place before you start.
