Two year course
at North Hanover Street Campus
This course will allow students to study Modelmaking to a national recognised qualification. Projects are developed from research to initial concept to sketch design then sketch model and finally to the completion of a high quality presentation or prototype model with art work for client viewing. As part of the course students have worked with live clients in London and taken part in industrial visits in the UK and Europe including, London, Liverpool, Manchester and Barcelona. Students will learn about new materials, CAD and the latest Rapid Prototyping (RPP) technology such as 3D Printing (3DP), Stereolithography (SLA), Selective laser sintering (SLS), Fused deposition modelling (FDM). Student will also use a Laser Cutter to produce models ranging from Architectural to product Prototypes.
Modelmaking is an ever growing and multidisciplinary industry with career paths leading into all areas of the creative industry. Modelmakers require the ability to communicate designs and concepts from any creative industry via physical 3D models.
Emphasis is placed on developing the core skills of Communication, Problem Solving, Information Technology and Working with Others. Modelmaking: For the Creative Industries aims to deliver a variety of traditional hand skills as well as incorporating the use of industry standard technology preparing the candidate for employment or further study in an area of their choice.

Progression Opportunities
Career
Many students have entered employment directly following successful completion of course work. Roles have included working in Modelmaking companies, Modelmaking for Designers, Architects, Product Designers, TV and Film Industries. Some students have successful setup their own Modelmaking Company and others are working freelance. Students have worked all over the UK and abroad in countries including; Dubai, Australia and New Zealand.
Study
Students who have previously studied on this course have gone directly into second year at University to study Modelmaking Design and a range of other courses to BA(Hons) level, including: Product Design Engineering, Product Design, Technical Theatre Production and Fine Art.
Entry Requirements
(a) NC Model Making or a related discipline.
OR
(b) One Higher from Art, Craft & Design, Product
Design or Graphic Communication and English at minimum Intermediate 2.
OR
(c) Related experience.
All applicants should submit a suitable portfolio of work.
Apply Information
Fill in an application form and return it as soon as possible to the College’s Student Services Section. Your application will be acknowledged within ten working days of receipt.
It is important that you complete the application form as accurately and clearly as possible. You may also wish to include additional information to support your application.
Your completed application form will be passed to a course tutor who will consider your application and you may be asked to attend an interview.
If you are successful you will be made a formal offer of a place. An unconditional offer means that you fulfil all the immediate course entry requirements and have been accepted. A conditional offer means that you must obtain certain qualifications or examination grades before you are accepted. Guidance on how to accept or decline a place is contained in the offer letter.
If you decide to withdraw your application or if you are accepted on to more than one course, please inform the Student Services Section immediately. This will enable us to offer the places held open for you to other applicants.
Applicants who are unsuccessful will be given the opportunity to consider other options available to them and, if required, to seek advice from Student Services Staff.

Applications are welcomed throughout the year. However, the earlier you apply the better your chance of a place on the course of your choice.

Enrolment
Enrolment dates vary according to course requirements. If you have accepted a definite offer of a place, the Student Services Section will provide you with joining instructions giving details on when to enrol and first day attendance. These are usually sent at the beginning of August.
Induction
During your first few days at the College you will obtain more information on your course of study and the facilities on offer at College. Usually there is a Welcome Event at the beginning of each academic session. Details will be provided with joining instructions.
