As an open learner you can choose:
- What you want to study
- When you want to study
- When you want to be assessed (or even if you want to be assessed).
You need not attend college on a regular basis but can study at home, in the workplace or anywhere else that suits you. Most of the courses detailed here are written in such a way that learners do not need to visit the college. If you do use the college to access open learning you may wish to use the Flexible Learning area of the Library which offers an attractive environment for study including:
- Internet access
- A suite of high specification IT facilities
- Access to software applications
- Areas for individual study
- Easily accessible resources and support
Many courses are built around multi-media self learning packages. The Flexible Learning Area may be accessed each weekday from:
9am until 4.45pm (Mon to Fri)
10am until 4.45pm (Thursdays)
All enrolled students are also free to make use of the resources of the Libraries.

Support for Open Learning
Specialist advice and help is available from the open learning service. Staff can provide:
- Support and advice on study
- Information on open learning courses available
- Progression routes to other college courses
- A learning plan
- Help in using resources
- On-going support if required.
Support is available face to face, by telephone, post and email to suit your needs. Tutors are available at various times throughout the week during term time. They will be able to offer you support and guidance as you progress through your course.
