Successful Students

The success of the College’s learners is displayed in many ways, some of which are most meaningful to learners themselves.  However, external recognition of excellent standards is always a welcome benchmark. 

Awards over the 2007/08 session have been many but include:

  • 20 Winners at Trades House - in areas including Food and Hospitality ; a wide range of art, design and craft, photography, New media, fine book binding, stonemasonry
  • 6 HND Photography students were shortlisted in the Association of Photographers  annual competition, the most prestigious professional photography competition in the UK
  • A Bookbinding student won the annual National Library of Scotland Elizabeth Soutar Bookbinding Competition 2007
  • PDA Photography students were awarded £3,000 through National Lottery to enable them to hold three Photography exhibitions in Glasgow in June 2008 and develop a web portfolio to promote their work
  • Two printing apprentices were awarded runner-up high commendation certificates at the inaugural Proskills 2007 Apprentice of the year ceremony held at the Belfry, Birmingham
  • Two projects Commended in Design and  Advertising Design Awards - UK wide
  • Graphics student group won Competition for Logo  design for Glasgow College Literacies Network
  • Scottish Licensed Trade  News Design Competition
  • Fair Trade - NQ Project - invited to Scottish Parliament to exhibit at the international launch of Fair Trade Week. The Lord Provost also visited Florence St. to meet participating students
Pupils on the Design for Print Course

Another success involved pupils from Glasgow’s Sandaig and St. Stephen’s primary schools. These pupils successfully completed a design for print course, which resulted in the production of posters, calendars and magazines promoting diversity and friendship.
