About Scotland
Scotland is part of the United Kingdom with a population of over 5 million. It shares a border with England to the South, and is bounded by the North Sea, Atlantic Ocean, North Channel and Irish Sea. In addition to the mainland, Scotland also boasts 790 islands including the Northern Isles and Hebrides
Scotland is a country of contrast. Cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh are vibrant, successfully combining traditional with new. Historic buildings and period architecture sit alongside modern offices, hotels and shopping centres creating a cosmopolitan feel and appealing to a range of tastes. Our cities are complemented by vast landscapes with beautiful countryside, hills, mountains and lochs attracting tourists from around the world. Such landscapes provide a great setting for outdoor activity with golf, angling, climbing, hill walking and watersports popular throughout the country.
There is much to see in Scotland from the highlands and islands to the cities; however excellent transport links allow visitors to easily reach other destinations such as London in less than one hour by plane; with additional budget flights and rail travel to Europe, and beyond, also possible.
Scotland is an inspirational country to live, study and work. The country boasts a strong national identity, its own parliament, laws, banking system and one of the most respected education systems in the world. The Scottish Government was established in 1999 and is based in Holyrood, Edinburgh, led by First Minister Alex Salmond.
Choosing Scotland as your study destination is a major decision however here you will find a first class education system, work opportunities and most importantly friendly and welcoming people. We are confident you will enjoy our country.
