This is an introductory course for anyone wishing to learn how to cook. The course introduces students to basic easy to prepare and nutritious dishes. The course will cover a variety of preparation and cookery techniques as well as helpful tips.
On the first evening the lecturer will demonstrate a dish from the course and then inform you of the ingredients you have to purchase from the second week of the course onwards.

Student Services is open to receive personal applications from 8.45am to 4.15pm Monday to Friday. Your booking will be taken and if you are paying by cheque or cash, you will receive a Payment Form to take to the Finance Department
If you earn up to £18,000 a year, ILA Scotland will provide you with up to £200 a year – you just need to pay a minimum contribution of £10 for every course undertaken using your account with ILA Scotland.

Please note that you must be in possession of a valid ILA before we can take your booking. ILA will send you a token for your class, which you must bring on the first night.
If you do not have a valid ILA before booking a place on an evening or Saturday morning course you can still book but must have it set up before starting your course.

We will check the availability of your course/s and respond to you by email. Providing there are spaces available, we will then require you to either make a payment over the phone or in person.
Complete the registration form and return it with your payment.
Payment method can be cheque or postal order made payable to Glasgow Metropolitan College or by including your credit/debit card details.
The following credit/debit cards are accepted: Access, Visa, Mastercard and Switch.
Note your place is not guaranteed until payment has been approved, this can take up to 7 days.
If you are on benefits, you may not be required to pay courses fees. Fee waiver places are limited, subject to availability and are not available for all classes.
Booking a fee waiver place can be made by telephone or in person at Student Services. When booked you have 7 days to produce proof of your eligibility, documents must be up to date within the last 3 months.
You will be required to pay a £5 deposit to secure your fee waiver place. This will be refunded when enrolment has taken place.

If your employer is paying for your course please provide the employer name on the booking.
We will ask you to fax authorisation on company letterhead, stating your details, the course you have booked, the fee and that your company will be paying. An invoice will then be sent to the employer.
You can find the cost of courses in the prospectus and on the website and this must be paid before starting your course.
The College charges a non-refundable administration fee of 20% of the course fee should you choose to withdraw from the class before it commences. Transfers from one course to another course or from one term to another term for the same course are generally treated as being a withdrawal. If you choose to withdraw once a course has commenced, then no refunds are available.
Many classes fill up very quickly as places are allocated on a ‘first come first served basis’. If you are unsuccessful in obtaining a place, your name will be placed on a waiting list. The waiting list will be given priority when the course is repeated later in the year. Student Services will then contact you to offer a place on your chosen course.
All classes are subject to sufficient numbers of students enrolling and can be cancelled up to 24 hours prior to the date on which the class is due to begin. If a class is cancelled your fee will be refunded in full but no refunds can be given if you choose to leave the class once it has started. If a class is cancelled due to bad weather conditions we will inform local radio stations (Real Radio, Radio Scotland and Radio Clyde). We will endeavour to timetable a class to replace the one missed.
The college may be able to offer childcare support. This support is primarily to help lone parents and is not available for Higher Education Units.

Childcare expenses of £10.00 per evening/Saturday morning may be available for lone parents with children aged 0-13. Proof of lone parent status should be provided to the Finance Section within 7 working days of your enrolment. You will then be issued with a weekly attendance sheet. This should be signed by your lecturer, and then handed into the Finance Section who will issue you with your £10.00 and a new attendance sheet for the next week of your course.
A free creche for 0-8 year old children may be provided for students. Priority will be given to lone parents. Proof of lone parent status should be provided to the Finance Section within 7 working days of your enrolment.
If you wish a creche place for your child but are not a lone parent, we can still take your relevant details and hold your creche booking as provisional while priority is given to lone parents. Two weeks prior to the start of the course, if there are still free creche places available, we will allocate these from the provisional bookings list on a first come first served basis and advise you accordingly.
Childcare (of lone parents) aged 9-13 can be enrolled free of charge on to one of a number of appropriate Saturday morning classes if their parent is already taking a Saturday morning class.
There are a limited number of car parking spaces at the college. We can pre book spaces for those with mobility difficulties. Please let us know when you book your course if you wish us to pre book a space. Parking is available after 6pm in most streets near the college.
We will tell you the location of your course on the confirmation letter sent after you have booked a place. Please read this carefully. The College has 5 buildings and it is important that you know where to attend.
Details of room numbers and location will be posted at or near the entrance to the college.
